Who we are

David Whelpton - Managing Director

David began his career devising programmes to teach children through participative drama, culminating in a radical and ambitious joint venture with the National Trust involving some 3000 children in three Trust properties over a six week period.

A game of cricket led to a career change with a move into marketing and communications in 1986. Since then he has concentrated on evolving creative solutions to complex communications issues, engaging with organisations at a director and board level.  In more recent times this has meant providing senior executives and owner managers of SMEs with guidance on the role of communications in the delivery of core business objectives. 

David is a fully qualified England & Wales Cricket Board Level Two Coach and Vice Chair of Governors at an outstanding primary school.

 

Chris Cooling - Creative Director

With a BA in Applied Graphic Studies, Chris comes from a family background in print and carries extensive experience and technical knowledge of the processes that are involved. He has a keen sense of the need to design eye catching, attractive and accessible material that engages and promotes effectively.

He has also been responsible for the creation of over 50 brands and corporate identities in the last 10 years at Broadgate and oversees all of our creative outputs, from print to websites and apps.

 

Sian Cosby - Company Secretary

Sian began her career in PR consultancy for hi-tech companies including Microsoft and QA Training before moving onto the then Health Education Authority to work on the groundbreaking HIV and Aids awareness campaigns. 

 

 

Laura Cotton - Senior Consultant

Laura’s ability to synthesise information and translate complex arguments into simple language underpins her career. With 12 years as a journalist and several years in the public and voluntary sectors, she has a clear understanding of the value and importance of good communications.

She has worked as a communications consultant since 1996, focussing on housing and regeneration projects. She has developed and implemented clear, measurable strategies for a range of projects including mass consultation regeneration, branding and rebranding exercises, marketing and press work, and devising and delivering training for staff and residents.  

Laura has a first degree in Linguistics and an MA in Political Communications. She was a board member of the Newham Almo for two years and she has worked on 40 housing transfers.

 

Michael Lawler – Senior Consultant

Michael is a highly experienced communications professional with a background in the public and not-for-profit sector. He has worked on many community-focused projects including marketing campaigns, stakeholder engagement and community consultations as part of large capital investment programmes such as private finance initiatives, housing stock transfers and school building initiatives.  

Michael works with schools on reputation management and stakeholder engagement as well as on academy projects.

 

Antony Cooling - Procurement Manager

Antony attained a Diploma in Print, Publishing and Packaging after studying for two years at West Herts College. His 20 years experience covers all areas of printing, and he now manages Broadgate’s print and purchasing department, passing on the benefit of his inside knowledge to clients with a powerful combination of best prices and best practice.
